Ellis Beach

Ellis Beach is the northern most part of the Cairns Local Government Area. It is a small coastal community, with little urban development. It is located on the road to Port Douglas. There is a small hotel/cafe, and a surf life saving club at Ellis Beach. Ellis Beach is about 34mins drive north of Cairns CBD. 


The People
Most of the residents of Ellis Beach are retired, and live in alternative forms of housing, including caravans and boats. There is little, to no, real estate property available in this suburb.


General facilities
Ellis Beach has few community services and facilities – those that are there are focused on surf life saving and camping. Ellis Beach is located on the coastal highway to the north of Cairns, and has a hotel/café, and surf life saving club. The closest library and swimming pool is located in Smithfield, about 15mins drive south of Ellis Beach.


Medical
The closest medical services to Ellis Beach are at Palm Cove and Clifton Beach, about 5mins drive south. The nearest hospitals are Cairns Base Hospital and Cairns Private Hospital, about 30mins drive south.


Shopping
There is only one shop in Ellis Beach, a combined pub and café with limited groceries. The closest shops are at Palm Cove and Clifton Beach, about 5mins drive south, and the closest major shopping centre is at Smithfield, about 15mins drive south.


Schools
There are no schools in Ellis Beach. The closest schools are at Kewarra Beach, Trinity Beach and Trinity Park or Smithfield State High School; all located from 10mins to 15mins drive south of Ellis Beach. 


Public Transport
Sunbus has some service in the area and taxis are available. Buses heading further north to Port Douglas and Mossman can make stops at Ellis Beach.
