Woree is a large suburb that is divided in its land uses. One part of the suburb that is low lying and close to the coast is focused on industrial uses, while the area further inland is predominantly commercial and residential in nature. Woree is about 12 mins drive south of Cairns CBD.

Woree was positioned near the Cairns Jockey Club's Cannon Park racecourse, so-named because the site was leased from John Cannon, farmer and landholder.



The People
The population of Woree consists mainly of families. The area tends towards lower-cost apartment blocks and single-dwellings. It is a rapidly growing area.


General facilities
Woree has a number of local parks. Calana Park is a district level sports facility in the area and Pezutti Park is a community facility with a hall and clubhouse. The closest library is at Earlville, about 4mins drive north. Woree has its own swimming complex. As the Bruce Highway approaches Cairns, several motels and caravan parks were built in Woree for southern holiday makers. Woree emerged as a sub-regional centre, with a Council swimming pool and a library
 
Woree has a community centre, a library and a bowling club. The lower-lying eastern part is mainly industrial.



Medical
There are a number of medical outlets in the Woree area including dental and pathology services. The closest hospital is Cairns Base Hospital about 12mins drive north. Cairns city has a full complement of medical, dental and pathology services.


Shopping
There are a number of convenience stores in Woree including takeaway food outlets. The nearest shopping centre is Stockland Shopping Centre at Earlville, about 4mins drive north. Mount Sheridan Shopping Centre is about 11mins drive south of Woree.


Childcare
There is a child care centre and a kindergarten in Woree. The surrounding suburbs of White Rock, Bentley Park, Bayview Heights and Earlville also have various child care options.


Schools
Woree has a state high school and a primary school and there is also St Mary’s Catholic College high school. The surrounding suburbs of White Rock and Bentley Park also have schooling options.


Public Transport
Sunbus and taxis both service this area. There is a train line that runs through the suburb but this is restricted to goods trains and intrastate trains and there is no station.
