Caravonica, Cairns is an established middle-northern suburb of Cairns that still retains a significant amount of rural land and activities. The Barron River flows through the area. Cairns CBD is about 15-20mins drive south of Caravonica.
The population of Caravonica consists mainly of families with some living on rural properties including sugarcane farms. There are a number of new residential property developments in the area.
There are no medical facilities in Caravonica but the adjacent suburb of Smithfield has a number of doctors and pathology labs. The closest hospital is Cairns Base Hospital which is about 20mins drive south of Caravonica.
There are not many facilities at Caravonica apart from the primary school and the CWA Hall. The nearest library is at Stratford, about 10mins drive south or at Smithfield, about 15 mins drive north. The nearest swimming pool is also at Smithfield. There are a lot of informal and unstructured green spaces consisting of floodplain, rural land, and parkland.
Caravonica has a convenience store but the major shopping outlets are located north at Smithfield Shopping Centre, about 10mins drive, or at Redlynch, about 10mins drive south.
There is no child care in Caravonica but nearby suburbs of Brinsmead and Freshwater, to the south and Smithfield, to the north, have a number of child care centres.
There is a state primary school at Caravonica. The adjacent suburbs of Smithfield, Freshwater, Redlynch and Brinsmead offer a variety of schools including state high schools, catholic colleges (Prep-12) and Christian colleges.
