Kanimbla, Cairns is one of the newer middle-western suburbs of the Cairns Local Government Area. It is growing rapidly with middle to higher income housing developments. The area is dominated by separate block houses that are a part of new 'estates'. Kanimbla is continuing to develop with new blocks being released. There is still some green space in the area with most being allocated to small neighbourhood parks. Kanimbla is about 17mins drive from Cairns CBD.
The population of Kanimbla is mainly families, including second and third home buyers. There is a growing population of young singles living in luxury apartment complexes in lower Kanimbla. This is a popular suburb due to its proximity to Cairns CBD and central location for accessing services in other suburbs.
There are no medical services in Kanimbla. The adjacent suburbs of Mooroobool and Manunda offer medical clinics. The closest comprehensive medical, dental and pathology services are in Cairns city, about 10mins drive east. The nearest hospital is Cairns Base Hospital.
Kanimbla has a number of green spaces in the area, including City View Park and Moody Creek Detention Basin where kids can kick a ball with soccer goals or ride their bike or skate board within the skate bowl; however it has few other community facilities or services. Residents use the adjacent suburbs for most services, including Manoora and Mooroobool. The closest library is in Manunda and the closest swimming pool is the Tobruk Memorial Pool in North Cairns.
There are no shops in Kanimbla. There is a convenience hub in Mooroobool, about 5mins drive away and a supermarket at Raintrees Shopping Centre in Manunda. There is an IGA supermarket on Pease Street in Manunda. The closest shopping centres include DFO in Westcourt, Cairns Central in the city CBD and Stockland Shopping Centre in Earlville. All are approximately 10-15mins drive from Kanimbla.
There is no child care centre in Kanimbla but the adjacent suburbs of Manunda, Manoora, Mooroobool, Whitfield and Edge Hill all offer a variety of child care services.
There are no schools in Kanimbla. There is a state primary school, a state high school and a Catholic primary school in Manunda and other primary schools in Whitfield, Edge Hill and Earlville.
