Palm Cove is one of the northern most beaches in the Cairns area; it is about 35mins drive north of Cairns CBD. It is increasingly characterised by tourist accommodation, resorts, and restaurants. The beach has a stinger net enclosure and a jetty. Palm Cove is one of the best suburbs in Cairns with highly sought after, high quality accommodation options. It is considered to be an ‘exclusive’ suburb.
The population of Palm Cove consists mainly of high wage earners and retirees with a transient population of visitors and hospitality workers.
Palm Cove has few 'community' facilities and services, apart from the stinger-net enclosure on the beachfront; but it does have a large number of user pays facilities and services. The nearest library and public swimming pool are at Smithfield, about 20mins drive south.
There are no medical services in Palm Cove but the adjacent suburb of Clifton Beach has a medical centre, dentist and pathology lab. The closest hospital is Cairns Base Hospital about 35mins drive south in the Cairns CBD.
Palm Cove has a number of convenience stores, eateries, bars and fashion stores. The nearest shopping centre is at Clifton Beach, about 5mins drive south, with a supermarket, post office, banks, a newsagent and specialty stores including furniture and homewares stores. The closest large shopping centre is at Smithfield, about 20mins drive south.
